A Week of Worship

Making your home sing Mondays

Yay! I finally have time to participate in Making Your Home Sing Monday hosted by my sweet friend, Nan @ Momstheword. My family should be very happy about this because my house didn't sing very well last week.

As a matter of fact, I have to confess that I wasn't even a very nice person to be around.

All week I was on edge and extremely grouchy. Unfortunately, this was reflected in both my attitudes and my behaviors. By the time, Saturday rolled around, I wasn't happy with myself and I am pretty sure my family wasn't either.

It might have been hormone related (yes, I confess it ;).

But that's not an excuse.

As I was standing in church this morning, preparing for worship, the Holy Spirit gently revealed to me the real reason for my crabbiness. I have not been spending enough time in worship lately. I have not been worshipping my sweet Heavenly Father, as much as He desires and not nearly as much as He is deserves.

This was later reaffirmed to me by a word that the pastor spoke over my husband and me.

Then DarcyLee @ In This Season shared this beautiful verse for Sunday Scripture...

"You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being." Revelation 4:11

The Lord, our Creator, knows everything about us.

He knows when we are in a bad mood. He knows our bad actions and our selfish attitudes. But even more than that, He has the power to change them. And when we worship Him, we allow Him the opportunity to take our ungodly behavior and turn it into something that will glorify Him.

You see, worship isn't just a one way conversation where we tell God all that we love and adore about Him. Yes, it is that. But it can be so much more than that. If we will open our hearts to worship in spirit and in truth as Jesus directed, worship can become a straight line of intimate communication with the Lover of our Souls.

Worship can help us reconnect with this ultimate Lover and let Him speak new life into our tired, wretched bodies and our unholy, ungodly attitudes. But this can never happen, if we don't first open the lines of communication.

We have to be willing to put our own selfish attitudes aside and say, "Lord, you are worthy to receive all glory, honor and praise. You are my all in all. I give it all to you, all that I am, all that I have ever been and all that I will ever be. My heart's desire is to forever praise Your name."

So this week, will you join me in worshipping our Heavenly Father?

Let's set aside some time in our busy schedules (and yes, I know they are busy) to spend intimate time with Him, telling Him just how much we love and adore Him. Let's give Him the opportunity to speak new life into us. Then and only then will we be able to effectively serve our Father and make our homes sing.

For days I have been singing Revelation Song by Phillips, Craig & Dean. This song always makes me want to stop and bow down to this mighty Creator we serve. Here is a beautiful version sung by Kari Jobe. I pray it is a great way to start off your week of worship.

I'm curious. How do you incorporate worship into your life? Do you have a favorite song or verse? Do you have a special place you like to worship? Are you a quiet, reverent worshipper? Or do you crank up the music and sing even louder? (Yes, Michelle, I know that's you ;) Are you trying to develop an attitude of worship? How is it going? What do you wish you could do differently?

Leave a comment letting me know.

Then later in the week, I will write a post featuring those comments. I think this will be a great way to share ideas and learn from each other. It helps to know that other people are pursuing the same goal. Often, the enemy tries to distract us or discourage us. But if we make it a group effort, that can take away some of the enemy's firing power.

On Friday, I'll post again and ask how your week went. I'd like to know if it made a difference in your week. Or did you learn anything from it? Will you continue to develop an attitude of worship? So be prepared to come back Friday and share your experiences. I look forward to hearing all about it!

In the meantime, I pray you have a worshipful week, reconnecting with our sweet Heavenly Father!

Take care my sweet friends!

Just keepin' it real,

Wow! The Lord is sending me from devotion to devotion this morning and hitting so many areas that I need to deal with at the moment! Praise and Worship is how I FEEL GOD! No doubt about it, when I am in a place with amazing praise and worship I soo feel God and I can feel close to Him, let Him in to my heart in ways that I just can't go at other times. We were in a Church serving for a good while after the worship, well , no other way to describe it, had become dead. That among other things began to make us as a family feel very dry and we were very prayerful because we felt a responsibility and also an attachemtn to people and friends, well evenutally God told us to step down and move to another Church to be prepared for future He has for us. This move did not go well and we lost ALL our friends because they felt abandoned and refused to believe that God would have told us to leave. It took awhile to find a place we thought God was sending us. We have, and the worship is good, but different and not the amazing worship I so despretly seek for ME. The Church though has what everyone else in the family needs, they all love it and my college daughter definitly is having her needs met as is my 2 year old. I am too, but for me there is never enough worship. I find myself wanting to visit some big Churches in the area for special events because I know that worship I seek will be there. This article today shows me that I need to go back to having that kind of worship in my home with a cd blaring! One of my most special places right now for worship is in the car! I can be driving with my 2 year old Noah in the backseat and a praise and worship cd blaring and sing my heart out, in the rear view mirror he has his hands up! I find I like long drives with just him and I lately! :) Anyway, all that to share that God used you to speak to me this morning about ways I can get that close to Him and it not have to be in a Church worship service.

Thanks
Tami

Alicia!
What a beautiful post.
I love to fill my home with worship music. It seems to take any craziness or grouchyness out of the home. It's so beautiful!!

Thanks for the cute comment on my blog about the 'cake'. Yes, I've had friends that have gone to TN and everyone LOL about it being a dry county. Very ironic.

Blessings to you this day my friend!!

I love listening to Old CHristian Radio, Christian songs in the car, and just singing along. My children even join in. :D Some times I just sit and listen to the words and how they speak to my heart.

I just pop in my worship CDS and crank it up...I sing loud, lift my hands, & the tears start to fall. I often stand in worship, but visualize myself before the thrown at his feet...
The best place to be, at his feet in worship.

I don't often play any kind of music in our home, I just never have. But our son plays on the worship team so he will fill our home with lovely worship songs. And I often listen to worship music in the car.

I don't think I incorporate worship nearly enough. But I do use music to do it, and prayer and praise. Just being thankful and noticing the little things that He does for us, and thanking Him for them, is a way to incorporate worship and thankfulness for His faithfulness.

Thanks for linking up today!

Your wonderful post has me in tears. I am the lost lamb who has wandered from the flock. Wondering why God has forsaken me, when it is me who has forsaken him.

Your words are message to my heart telling me what I need to do to find His peace in my life again.

Thank you.

Incredible post! I have a hard time getting up early in the morning and reading my Bible. I feel so guilty when I admit that, but I try and incorporate worship into my day by listening to K-love and singing and dancing with my kids.

Songs just reach my heart and mind and make the Lord part of my day!

It is funny (not) that we always fall with the same rocks. Even if we learn once, somehow we seem to forget the next time. At least that happens to me...
Worship, praise, should be an essencial part of out day!

I just found a new to me song that I just love, and am never able to hear it once without hitting the replay at least once (often more). It is called "Sing to Jesus" by Fenando Ortega.
"Sing to Jesus, Lord of our shame
Lord of our sinful hearts.
He is our great Redeemer.
Sing to Jesus, Honor His name.
Sing of His faithfulness,
pouring His life out unto death"

Bow the Knee is my favorite song, which makes my heart turn toward Home every time. We enjoy worshiping with our church family every week.

i love that song. whenever we sing that in church, i would raise both my hands as act of surrender. sometimes i play worship song at home over and over again - just one song. daystar channel sent me a cd and there's a song there about blessing the house. i play that over and over until i have other things to do that need silence. that usually last about an hour or so. sometimes i think that song in the cd has already been scratched badly for having been played repeatedly. haha.

I worship most often in my car. I have a long commute, and I sing as I drive. More often than not, I don't play a CD. I just sing whatever pops into my heart. I love those worship drives. Good question & encouraging post!
